Drawing
"I have learned that what I have not drawn I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle. " - Frederick Franck
Drawing offers something for everyone. It is one of the most natural and enjoyable forms of expression known to us. Over the coming weeks participants will gain a level of confidence that will hopefully inspire them to further explore their creative potential, and encourage them to take a more self-directed approach to art making.
Over the duration of this 10-week course participants will be introduced to the fundamental practices of drawing. Through practical exercises, participants will hone their observation skills and develop their understanding and knowledge of the nature of drawing, whilst acquiring techniques that may in turn used to reproduce and render objects of interest.
Aspects such as line, form, tone, texture, perspective, scale, composition and presentation will be covered, and at the end of this 10-week course participants produce a composition of their own choosing.
What You Will Need For the Course
It is advised that participants purchase the following materials.
- Faber-Castell Pencils [one of each] – 5H, HB, 4B, alternatively a set of Derwent pencils may be purchased [found in sets of six and twelve, they have a good range of hard and soft leads, and are very reasonable in priced].
- Eraser
- Metal Sharpener
- A3 Sketch Pad or A4 notebook– a good quality paper is necessary, with a slightly textured surface, so when choosing, look for a paper with a medium surface and in the region of 150 gsm [the gsm number is basically the weight or strength of the paper, which can usually be found on the front cover].
- A roll of lining paper can also be purchased in any good hardware shop – it is extremely cheap and a very good surface to work on in both pencil and watercolour.
